bearing
The rotating mechanism at the top of a spinning pole that allows it to turn freely when unlocked. When locked, the pole becomes static. Spinning vs static pole: 2 modes that change how every move feels
centrifugal force
The outward pull you feel when the pole spins. It extends your limbs away from the pole and builds as the rotation speeds up, making exits harder to control. Spinning vs static pole: 2 modes that change how every move feels
inversions
Moves where your body is upside down on the pole, with your legs above your head and your torso often horizontal or angled. They require core strength and rely on skin grip at multiple contact points. What to wear for pole dancing: 5 grip zones that need bare skin
pole sit
An early hold where you sit sideways on the pole with one thigh pressed against the back and the other thigh gripping the front, using friction and body weight to stay in place. What to wear for pole dancing: 5 grip zones that need bare skin
resin
A sticky substance applied to the hands or pole to increase tack, particularly useful for dynamic moves where hand position shifts quickly. What to do when your hands sweat on the pole: 4 fixes that work mid-session
static mode
A pole that is fixed in place and does not rotate, so all momentum comes from the dancer pushing off or spinning around it. What shoes to wear for pole dancing: 3 grip zones that decide
tack
The stickiness a grip aid leaves on the skin, so the hand bites on the pole instead of sliding across it. Four hand positions that fix your pole grip technique
